The Art of The Traveller

Lately, in my local travels, I've noticed a number of artists who are fortunate enough to travel abroad, create beautiful pieces around those travel adventures. Lynn Box and Wendy Framst come immediately to mind. Both these talented artists have works on display at various galleries. Lynn has her Rooster Taes exhibit at the Feature Gallery - Studio 2880 and Wendy has her work at the Rustad Galleria in the Two Rivers Gallery. Here are a few samples of the work they are sharing.

They have in fact, inspired me to not only create some of my own but to write this and perhaps search for some helpful tips and hints.

Empty Easel suggests to keep a journal;

Try an art journal

Art journals are great ways to document all kinds of events, including travel. Even if you don’t plan to do any serious artwork while traveling, it’s worthwhile to consider doing an art journal to document the trip and keep your artistic self motivated.

What’s that you say? You don’t keep an art journal? Then travel is a perfect time to try art journaling! You don’t have to spend a lot of money to begin, because all you need is a small drawing pad or notebook to draw in and something to draw with.

AND

Stay “art-ready” while traveling

The most important part of traveling with art is to always be prepared. Whatever your medium, be prepared to travel on the spur of the moment. Keep a field kit ready so you can grab it and go when the opportunity presents itself.

If you don't bring art supplies, make sure you have enough room on your digital camera SD cards or some way to transfer all those great travel images off any of the image capturing devices you have. When you take photos for reference, it is important to make notes about the time of day, the place, and especially the mood. Too often we see a technically great piece of art but it lacks that

"je ne sais pas". That something something. That feeling.

Dig?

Notes notes notes. Wendy and I talked about the importance of notes in our podcast episode.
